There was talk and allegations or complaints about him having engaged in inappropriate conduct towards his judge’s associates while he was a judge on the High Court and nothing came of it; it was just a few reports and it was difficult to stack up. Then we got wind that … there was going to be an investigation; that the High Court had taken these complaints from these women very seriously and they were going to launch a proper investigation with an independent person that they appointed. The High Court investigation undoubtedly … was the wind beneath our wings.How was it that you and Kate McClymont ended up working on it together? Kate knew about (the allegations), I got a tip about (the allegations) … and Kate, because she’s a delightful and incredibly generous journalist, was like, “Let’s work on it together”. We figured that he probably had done this more widely and I also had a tip about him having to leave his professorship at Oxford University because of this kind of behaviour. So I pursued that. And we basically were working on it in tandem, pretty heavily for the last few months. *This is an edited version of an extended interview.
