She acknowledged that a lot has changed since she started out in 1978 as a 17-year-old copy girl at Melbourne’s afternoon newspaper The Herald—a time before click bait or the 24-hour news cycle. Now, the AFL boasts two women commissioners and hopefully there’ll be a third by the end of the year, but when it comes to gender equality in sports Wilson believes we have a long way to go.
