Your resume is an essential item in your career toolkit. It is how you put your best foot forward, showing why you are perfect for a position.

Whether you’re applying for a new job or not, it’s important to keep your resume updated so you’re ready when an opportunity arises.

Ask yourself, does it reflect your unique assets and achievements and cover the points included in the job description? It may help to ask a friend or family member to review your application before you submit it.

What if you don’t have a cookie-cutter career history? How do you address breaks in your employment and time out to care for children, adults or other family members? These are common questions for many women trying to return to the workforce.

A 2019 Australian survey found that around two-thirds of women and half of men have taken a career break. They do so for a whole range of reasons – from parenting and caring, to travelling, studying and volunteering. As a result, the attitudes of hiring managers are rapidly changing and employers are increasingly recognising candidates with career breaks as an untapped talent pool.

We don’t all have linear career trajectories. There are countless reasons many of us choose to change careers or industries in our lifetime – and it’s increasingly common.

A recent Australian study indicated that young people today will potentially have 17 different jobs over five careers in their lifetime.

To help you get started, we have created three example resume templates.

These templates have been created in Google Docs so you can easily make a copy and start populating it with your information. Read the front page of the resume template for more guidance on how to save a copy that you can edit by yourself.
